The Best Whole Wheat Sandwich Bread Recipe That Also Makes Amazing Raisin Bread!

Thoughts and Musings

Okay ya’ll, we’ve been through this. I am not going to make you read my life story I made up about this bread to get to the recipe. All I will say is this is a great whole wheat bread recipe, it is so easy to turn it into raisin bread, it’s way healthier for you than what you can buy at the store, and it is cheap and isn’t hard to do. Okay? Okay. Here are the recipes:

Here is the written recipe:

Ingredients: 3 Cups warm water, 2 Tablespoons yeast, 1/2 Cup avocado or olive oil, 1/2 Cup honey, 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour, 4 teaspoons salt, 6-7 cups whole wheat flour.

For the cinnamon Raisin Loaf, additional ingredients: 1 cup brown sugar, 2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ground allspice, 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg, 3 tbs melted butter, 3/4 cup raisins. Optional coating: 1 Tablespoon honey and 1 Tablespoon butter warmed and mixed.

Directions:

Combine in a large bowl: Water, Yeast, oil, and Honey. Let sit for 15 mins until bubbling. Then add 2 1/2 cups AP flour, 4 tsp salt, and 5 cups whole wheat flour. Once combined keep adding flour until dough is slightly sticky but not sticking to your hands or the side of the bowl, up to 7 cups total. At this point knead the bread until it passes the window pane test (If you need an explanation, watch the video tutorial above). Put dough into a well oiled bowl and cover, let rise until doubled in size. Once double in size, punch down the dough to get rid of all air bubbles and then split evenly into 2 loaves. Roll the first one into a log and place into an oiled pan and cover to let rise. For the second loaf (The cinnamon raisin loaf), roll it into a large rectangle. Spread the melted butter onto the rolled out dough. Combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Spread the sugar and spice mixture onto the butter. Then sprinkle the raisins on evenly and roll the dough as tightly as you can into a swirl. Tuck and pinch the seams and ends together and let rest on the counter for 15 minutes before transferring to an oiled bread pan. Let both loaves rise until doubled in size and then bake in an oven at 350. Bake the plain loaf for 30-35 minutes. The raisin bread loaf let bake fro 15 minutes and then spread with the honey and butter mixture and let bake for an additional 15-20 minutes. let both loaves cool before slicing, enjoy!!
